Comparison of the susceptibility of several cultivars of avocado to the persea mite, Oligonychus perseae (Acari: Tetranychidae)

چکیده
We compared the susceptibility of seven cultivars of avocado, Persea americana, to feeding by Oligonychus perseae. Based on the percentage of leaf area damaged by mites in February 1998, cultivars were categorized into three groups: Hass and Gwen were `susceptible', Fuerte, Lamb Hass and Reed were `resistant', Esther, and Pinkerton were of `intermediate' susceptibility. A life table study in the laboratory showed no difference in mortality and rate of development of O. perseae of either the ®rst or second generation reared on either Hass, Pinkerton or Lamb Hass cultivars. Although O. perseae exhibited no difference across cultivars with respect to reproductive rates when reared on leaves collected in late spring (April) and early summer (June), net reproduction and intrinsic rate of increase were signi®cantly higher on Hass avocados in mid summer (July). A corresponding increase in percentage leaf area damaged by mite feeding was also observed in the ®eld on Hass in July. We suggest that seasonal changes in the nutritional quality of leaves may be the major factor determining susceptibility of avocado cultivars to O. perseae. # 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. متن کاملCo-clustering Spatial Data Using a Generalized Linear Mixed Model With Application to the Integrated Pest Management
version on a funder's repository at a funder's request, provided it is not made publicly available until 12 months after publication. Co-clustering has been broadly applied to many domains such as bioinformatics and text mining. However, model-based spatial co-clustering has not been studied. In this paper, we develop a co-clustering method using a generalized linear mixed model for spatial dat...

We are evaluating systemic insecticides for the management of current and newly emerging pests of California avocados. Studies are being conducted in commercial avocado groves, under normal agronomic practices. Trees are treated using a variety of techniques – soil application, trunk injection – to establish the methods that will provide the best uptake of insecticide for the protection of the ...

The two-spotted spider mite, Tetranychus urticae Koch (Acari: Tetranychidae), is an economically important pest of ornamental plant in Iran. The population abundance and spatial distribution were studied on five Rosa cultivars including Maroussia, Wendela, Elderado, Wenedetta, and Hot Lady during two growing seasons of 2011 and 2012 in greenhouse. The k parameter, index of dispersion, Lloyd’s m...

BACKGROUND Ecdysteroids are steroid hormones that control moulting and govern several changes during metamorphoses in arthropods. The discovery of the same molecules (phytoecdysteroids) in several plant species displayed a wide array of rather beneficial agricultural impact. Many representatives of the genus Ajuga plants contain phytoecdysteroids with a 5β-7-ene-6-one system exhibiting physiolo...
